Amdox at Didacta Asia — 36 sqm LED Feature Stand
The Brief
Amdox — an education technology company — needed a 36 sqm stand at Didacta Asia in Bangkok. The show draws education institution buyers, curriculum decision-makers and ed-tech procurement managers. The brief called for green LED lighting as a defining architectural feature of the structure — not as an added decoration, but as an integral element of the stand's form. LED-lit plinths, edge-lit structural elements and backlit display positions were specified throughout the 36 sqm footprint.
The Constraint
Using LED as a defining architectural element rather than an applied decorative layer creates a specific fabrication tolerance requirement. Where LED is built into the structure — as an edge light, a plinth base light, a panel illumination source — the spatial relationship between the LED position and the surface it illuminates has to be designed and fabricated precisely. Any misalignment reads as a fabrication error under show lighting. Across multiple LED-lit structural elements in 36 sqm, with an intersecting plane geometry that added to the complexity, every element had to be built to the relationship shown in the fabrication drawing — not left to on-site judgment. Managing this across a complex multi-element build within the Didacta Asia move-in window required the build to be fully planned before a single panel was cut.
The Approach
We mapped every LED position against its corresponding structural surface at the design stage. The fabrication drawings specified LED channel profile, strip specification and position for each element explicitly — so the relationship between light and surface was settled in the drawing, not during installation. LED channel profiles were fitted to the structural elements in the workshop, with strips installed and tested before transport. A component numbering system was applied to all structural elements so on-site assembly was unambiguous and followed the designed sequence without interpretation.
The Build
Components were fabricated, numbered and LED-tested in the workshop. Each LED zone was checked for colour output against the Amdox brand reference before packing. On-site, assembly followed the component sequence in the build plan. After each structural section was fitted, LED connections were made and tested before the next section was installed — preventing the need to open completed sections to find wiring faults. The stand was fully assembled and lit at the end of the move-in window. Green LED output was consistent across all elements.
