Custom Exhibition Stands, Designed and Built In-House

You have booked raw floor space — a marked footprint with nothing in it. A custom exhibition stand is the only format that starts blank and ends exactly as designed. This page is for exhibitors who have the floor area, the brief and the need to build something that no other exhibitor could walk away describing as the standard option. It covers how the process works from brief to open stand, what the in-house build pipeline looks like and what to expect from each stage.

What Raw Space Requires Before Build Can Start

Raw space means nothing is provided except a floor footprint. Power connection, floor protection, structural submission to the organiser and any overhead rigging must all be arranged as part of the project. Two documents determine whether the stand can open: the organiser's drawing approval and, for structures above the venue's height threshold, the venue's structural sign-off. Both are built into the project timeline from the initial brief.

Drawing submission deadlines at Bangkok trade shows are typically four to six weeks before the show. Structural calculations are required for stands above 2.4 m at most Bangkok exhibition venues. Pixelmate Exhibition Co., Ltd. prepares all submission documentation and handles approval correspondence with the organiser.

From 3D Concept to Built Stand — How the Pipeline Works

The design process starts from the brief, floor plan and brand guidelines. A photo-real 3D render at multiple viewing angles shows the intended stand before a single panel is cut. After the client approves the concept, technical drawings for organiser submission and fabrication drawings for the workshop are produced. These are two separate document sets with different audiences: the organiser sees the dimensions and materials; the workshop sees the construction joinery.

The gap between the render and the finished stand is determined at two points: material selection during design and quality control during fabrication. Pixelmate Exhibition Co., Ltd. builds in-house at Lam Luk Ka — the same team that reviews the drawing fabricates the piece. There is no handoff to a subcontractor between design sign-off and completed panel.

Pre-Build Inspection — the Stage Most Contractors Skip

Before any custom stand ships to a show, the complete stand is assembled at the Bangkok workshop. Every component — structural frame, wall panels, counter, lighting rig, graphics — is fitted together in the exact assembly the venue crew will reproduce. Problems found during workshop pre-assembly take hours to correct. The same problem found at the venue during the build-up window creates serious pressure against a fixed timeline with no margin.

Pre-assembly is also where the assembly sequence is documented for the on-site crew. A stand assembled twice — once in Bangkok and once at the venue — installs faster, with fewer surprises, than one assembled for the first time on-site.

Materials and Finishes — What Custom Build Controls

Custom stands use carpentry (MDF, timber, plywood), metalwork (welded steel, aluminium section), spray-finished surfaces, tension fabric, vinyl wrap and acrylic. Which materials appear where determines stand durability, visual weight, freight volume and total cost. Material decisions are made at the design stage — not after fabrication begins — and are reflected in the fabrication drawings that go to the workshop.

Organiser Submission and Compliance

Each Bangkok trade show organiser issues its own stand regulations, specifying what must appear in submitted drawings, what construction is restricted and what materials require certification. Pixelmate Exhibition Co., Ltd. formats submission drawings to every organiser's requirements, coordinates structural calculations where needed and manages all approval correspondence on the client's behalf.

What to Know Before Committing to Custom

Lead time is fixed

Fabrication cannot be meaningfully compressed. An eight-week lead time for a complex custom stand reflects the time required to build it correctly. Exhibitors who need a stand in four weeks are better served by modular reconfiguration or rental — not an accelerated custom build.

Capital cost is per event unless stored

A custom stand built for one show and discarded carries its full cost against one event. Exhibitors who store and reuse stands across shows reduce this materially — but storage requires planning from the outset of the first project, not as an afterthought.

Flexibility ends at fabrication sign-off

Once fabrication begins, significant design changes become costly and time-consuming. The approval stage is the correct point for changes. A structural redesign requested mid-fabrication adds cost proportional to how far construction has advanced.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance do I need to brief a custom stand?
The schedule depends on stand size, complexity and the show's move-in date, and we confirm it with your quote. Complex or double-deck structures with structural submission requirements need more planning time, so brief us early.
Can custom stands be stored and reused at future shows?
Yes. Stands can be dismantled after the show, stored at the Lam Luk Ka workshop and reconfigured or refurbished for subsequent events. Storage planning should be discussed at the start of the first project.
What is included in a turnkey custom stand quotation?
Design, technical drawings, organiser submission management, fabrication, graphics, lighting, furniture sourcing, freight to venue, installation and dismantling. AV is quoted separately depending on specific requirements.
What happens if the organiser rejects the submitted drawings?
Revisions for standard compliance issues — dimension annotations, material labelling, height adjustments to meet venue limits — are handled without additional charge. Revisions requiring structural redesign due to venue restrictions are discussed case by case.
Can I attend the pre-build inspection?
Yes. Client visits to the workshop for the pre-build inspection are welcome. Alternatively, detailed photographs and a video walkthrough of the fully assembled stand can be provided remotely.
