Lazio Region at THAIFEX Anuga Asia — 36 sqm Country Pavilion
The Brief
The Lazio Region — the Italian administrative region centred on Rome — participated in THAIFEX – Anuga Asia in Bangkok as part of an Italian food and agri-product trade delegation. The 36 sqm stand served as a country representation piece at Asia's largest food and beverage trade event. It needed to communicate Italian regional identity, signal the quality of Lazio's food and agricultural products to an Asian buyer audience, and stand out in a hall dense with exhibitors from across the world.
The Constraint
The brief required three things that, in combination, created the fabrication difficulty: a full laminate finish across the entire structure, straight-line geometry throughout, and a top-mounted lightbox as the primary brand element. Full laminate shows every joint, every surface irregularity and every out-of-square corner that spray paint would conceal. Straight geometry on a laminate-finished structure means every panel must be cut and fitted with zero visible joint lines at the corners. The top lightbox had to be level across its full width and evenly illuminated edge to edge. At 36 sqm, there is no surplus surface area where a less precise panel can be absorbed — every sheet is visible.
The Approach
We designed the stand as a three-face structure — back wall and two returns — in a laminate panel system with a consistent sheet size that minimised cut edges visible to the visitor. The Italian tricolour and Lazio Region graphics were applied as full-face prints rather than separate insert panels, eliminating visible joints within the graphic area. The top lightbox was designed with an even LED strip layout behind a diffuser panel of sufficient depth to eliminate hot spots at the LED source positions. The junction between the lightbox and the wall face below used a recessed trim channel to allow for any minor height variation in the on-site installation.
The Build
Laminate panels were cut and pre-fitted in the workshop with each sheet checked for squareness before it was packed. On-site, the structural frame was assembled first, confirmed level and plumb, and each laminate panel was fitted and checked for joint quality before the next was installed. The lightbox was fitted and tested for even illumination before the graphic skins went on. Tricolour and Lazio Region graphics were the last element applied, after all structural work was confirmed complete.
